A Dry Cleaner Brought To Life

Italian soundscape artist Diego Stocco brings to life the humble sounds of the local dry cleaner in his latest installation.  Stocco’s past artistic experiments have included burning a piano while easing out its last notes, exploring the sound of light with his piece Lumiosonic, devouring himself in the sound  of nature (particularly trees and sand) and composing soundtracks for film, television and videogames.

Burbank-based Stocco told Cool Hunting earlier in his career how his unique artistic creations came about:

After various experiments I found several ways to shape sounds out of things that apparently seem not that interesting. Regarding the more complex instruments that I build the process is a bit different, in that case I need to figure out how the instrument will actually work, tuned and played.

Using a puff iron, press and dry cleaning machines, a washer, clothes hangers, and a bucket full of soap, in Music From A Dry Cleaner, Stocco creates the bass and lead sounds from the buzzing tones coming from the conduits and engines.  Oh and did I mention there are no additional sounds from any traditional or electronic instruments? Only pedals and microphones illuminate the already impressive sound of the creative mind of Stocco.
