By Sarah Alexander / July 29th, 2010 in Art / 150 views

High profile filmmaker Daniel Askill is perhaps one of Australia’s most interesting artist exports. His portfolio moves from commercial to creative. Dance, video installations, advertising, short films and music videos.

The same man responsible for acclaimed short film We Have Decided Not to Die has also produced commercial work for high profile clients including Dior Homme and XBox. But some of his more familiar works are the music videos he created for Digitalism and more recently, These New Puritans .

In the next few weeks Slow Work On A Bright Screen, an exhibition comprised of a tight selection of Askill’s video work, will be on display in central Sydney.

Featured in the exhibition is one of his most recent pieces, Are We That We Are. In this project Daniel combined forces with his brother, designer/sculptor Jordan Askill, and childhood friend, choreographer Adam Kinder, to produce a specially commissioned piece for the Sydney Dance Company. Are We That We Are was choreographed & performed by Adam Kinder, costumes designed by Jodan and its off shoot, Nocturna for AnOther Magazine, filmed with the distinctive stark aesthetics of Daniel Askill.
