M.I.A loving Aussie designer with ‘XXXO’

By Sarah Alexander | August 12th, 2010 in Fashion

Before Gaga was bringing the ruckus, Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam or M.I.A. was bringin’ it, both on the music and fashion scenes. Three albums later and a baby on the side, M.I.A. is proving she can still push those style boundaries with her latest music video, XXXO. A techno love fest in which she has enlisted the help of up-and-coming Melbourne designer Nadia Napreychikov for some killer threads.

Signed up to IAMSOUND Records (who have snatched up fellow musicians Florence + the Machine, Little Boots and The Black Ghosts), Restless People have recently been performing alongside Cut Copy, Delorean and Memory Tapes and are slowly gaining recognition internationally.

Broken Social Scene Hologram up a Storm

By Sarah Alexander | August 5th, 2010 in Music

There’s something fresh about Broken Social Scene that makes them feel like a up-and-coming newbie on the ever expanding indie music scene. The fact of the matter is, they have been around since ‘99. Making an name for themselves internationally with their breakout hit of 2001, Feel Good Lost, an almost entirely instrumental album. The ever fluctuating band are still channeling the profound and nonsensical with Forgiveness Rock Record, their fourth studio album.

By Sarah Alexander | August 5th, 2010 in Fashion

WARNING THIS ARTICLE WILL CONTAIN A YOUR WEEKLY FIX OF GAGA

You’ve seen her risque with Beyonce, dressed in Kermits and an even stranger bubble number. So, Gaga on the cover of Vanity Fair’s September issue,…no biggie I hear you say. But have you seen her in a dress that billows smoke? – yeah, that’s right, a frothing of smoke…didn’t think so!

Nom de Guerre for Converse Skid Grip

By Sarah Alexander | July 29th, 2010 in Fashion

Galliano brought us ready to wear Napoleonic War fashion for Spring 09. Early 2010, Tennessee based Prophetik channeled the American civil war and all things Gone With The Wind in their AW10 collection. Jamaica keep it Short & Entertaining

By Sarah Alexander | July 29th, 2010 in Music

There is an advantage of day in day out, rainy, miserable winter whilst the rest of the world is experiencing sunny sunny summer. You may ask what, what could possibly be good about sideways fat rain that, no matter how one holds the brollie, manages to still get you square in the eyes!… well, for those of us south of the Equator, we literally get summer all year, musically speaking that is.
