The Great Compton, True Blood
If the vampire canon demands an exploration of blood, sex, infection, addiction, and death, then True Blood is the vampire gospel. Though the vampires in Bon Temps, Louisiana are on their best behavior to convince humans they can play nice and be functioning members of society, we spend most of our viewing time waiting for those moments when they misbehave.
We get to see Bill Compton misbehave in spectacular fashion in season 2, as he and his maker Lorena terrorise socialites in 1920s Chicago. Suggesting they all “fuck Prohibition,” Lorena and Bill kill a rich couple and writhe around in their blood. It’s the kind of hedonistic pursuit characteristic of an era in which the idle rich ruled supreme. But with more blood.
