Brooklyn Decker – Infinite Jest by DFW

Tennis plays a big part of Decker’s life; she’s married to Andy Roddick, a tennisician of great repute, and her dog is named after Billie Jean King.

The sport of kings (right? no?) is a major part of Infinite Jest, with the novel partially taking place on the grounds of Enfield Tennis Academy.

But Decker is not defined by her husband, you know, she’s a person all her own, with a personality and aspirations and organs and stuff. She is more than a model too, she’s an actress, appearing in films like Battleship and What To Expect When You’re Expecting.

An actress who has appeared in films based on a board game and a self-help instructional book would likely have great appreciation for the character of James Incandenza and his brilliant footnoted filmography; Incandenza’s fictional oeuvre is a seething mass of odd films, satirically postmodern movies that are both throwaway jokes and important Infinite Jest plot pieces. Many of the films star the PGOAT, the Prettiest Girl of All Time, a character who (maybe) suffers from a mutation of perfection, she’s so good-looking that it’s actually a deformity. A person whose job is to be attractive might associate with the PGOAT.
