It has been five whole years since pop icon Justin Timberlake blessed us with his album, ‘FutureSex/LoveSounds.’ Lately, instead of dominating the charts he has been taking over Hollywood, appearing in films such as Bad Teacher, Friends With Benefits and most notably, The Social Network. This ultimately begs the question, has everyone’s favourite pop star sold out to Hollywood?
American comedians Sara Schaefer and Nikki Glaser have written and posted a short PSA urging Justin to “do what [he was] forced to do at a young age: bring sexy back. This clip is heavily reminiscent of the Make Poverty History campaigns that featured on television in 2006. The use of black and white as well as the piece to camera technique to depict celebrities such as Brad Pitt and Colin Firth has been manipulated by Schaefer and Glaser. Instead, they depict a number of New York comedians posing as seemingly everyday individuals expressing their genuine desires for Justin to return to the music industry. The parallel made between global poverty and Timberlake emphasises just how damaging the singer’s disappearance from the music is for individuals across the globe.
Undoubtedly, it is a global concern that if Justin waits too long to release a song, he may never be able to bring sexy back back.

Sold out? OK, I know it’s tongue in cheek but – sold out? I think ‘sold out’ has sold out if an ex-mouseketeer and bubblegum popster can ever be accused of selling out. Even in jest. Popular culture has indeed eaten itself.
