Pitt, Gosling, Clooney & Co Break Bad

Can you imagine what kind of sick world we would live in without villains? I mean, what sort of story would The Lion King be without Scar? Harry Potter without Voldy? Die Hard without Hans Gruber? A film without a villain is like Ann without George Michael: pretty freaking bland.

Do yourself a favor and inject some badassery into your day by watching some of Hollywood’s finest pay tribute to the most heinous, foul bad guys we’ve ever seen on screen in the series Touch of Evil. Directed by Alex Prager for the New York Times, you’ll see Brad Pitt transform into Eraserhead, Rooney Mara creepily portray Alex de large, and Ryan Gosling disappear into thin air as the Invisible Man.

Prager has been playful with his great concept, resulting in thirteen incredibly intense, impeccably realised moments of pure evil, with no production detail spared: each video is an astoundingly beautiful piece of film. The series can be uncomfortable at times, but in the best of ways—these cinematic vignettes are so stylish, so dark and indulgently bad. It’s also incredibly refreshing to see big names like Pitt, Clooney, Gosling, Oldman and Dunst show their versatility off the big screen with such passion and exposing so much raw, unbridled talent. The exceptional score by Ali Helnwein takes the video portraits to a whole other level of perfect—coupled with a clean, timeless aesthetic throughout, Prager has truly created a chilling masterpiece.
