A relative newcomer to the booming Australian festival scene, Sugar Mountain festival is a city-based event in Melbourne which brings together talented creative types from all over the world for an arts and music festival in Melbourne city. While camping festivals have been all the rage for the last few years, Sugar Mountain is bringing the one-day music festival back to the city, and 2012′s musical line-up boasts some impressive acts including Deerhoof, tUnE-yArDs, The Oh-Sees, and many more.
Last year saw the legendary St Jerome’s Laneway Festival move further out of Melbourne’s CBD due to a lack of space, and while the City of Melbourne keeps the music flowing all year round with Melbourne Music Week, the Melbourne Festival, Melbourne Jazz Festival, Moomba and many other events, it’s exciting to see artists of this calibre all in the one spot for a show at one of the city’s most popular venues. As well as the main music event at the Forum Theatre, a selection of awe-inspiring international and local visual and performance art will be on display at Federation Square, ACMI and No Vacancy gallery. This promotional clip by Bas Hosn, Pete Keen and Rhys Mitchell gives us a taste of what’s in store.
From January 12 – 21, Sugar Mountain will also present a series of satellite events around the city, including film screenings and art installations. For the full festival program, head over to the website.
