The Design Files’ Ultimate Home

Think of the most amazing house ever; it’s clean, the items in it encompass fascinating, gorgeous design and the interior styling of carefully selected pieces is brought to life through ingenious arrangements.  Now place it in Melbourne’s trendy suburb of Fitzroy and fill it with the work of 72 inspired local artists and designers, and you have the innovative open house-style pop-up shop for design blog TheDesignFiles.net.

Unfortunately you’ve already missed it, as it was open in December last year—but a massive 5,000 people came through the house in the four days it was open.  And they loved it, as you can see from this short film about The Design Files Open House.

The idea to create a design pop-up shop in a suburban  house seemed fitting to Lucy Feagins, who organised the event as a part of her burgeoning blog The Design Files’s contribution to Melbourne’s State of Design festival.  An interior stylist herself, Lucy began the blog in 2008 to cover architecture, art, craft, illustration, graphic and interior design, and has since found herself being featured in publications around the world.  The home itself is a physical representation of The Design Files.

This sweet, and very aesthetically pleasing, short film was shot by Lucy’s friend and AFI-nominated director, Jessica Leski.  And with music by the Bon Scotts, The I’lls and The Honeypies, it not only looks like beautiful, but it looks like they had a great time.  Anyone else want to live there?
