There’s something strangely endearing about seeing your favorite comedian turn into a sad, normal person like the rest of us. Strip away the snarky one-liners and the silly situations these characters get themselves into, and sometimes you end up with the best traits of the actor has to offer.

Regardless of whether you prefer your comedians in comedy or serious fare, it’s a well worn path for many of the most successful ‘funny people’ today. As Kevin James looks to expand his filmography into gritty action fare with Here Comes the Boom, we choose to ignore his particular comedic roles (not that Paul Blart: Mall Cop wasn’t memorable – it was terrible) and look at some more successful transitions for comedic actors into dramatic roles.
