The late fashion designer and couture icon Alexander McQueen would certainly have relished the attention he received at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art last night. The gala spectacle, with countless art, film and design magnates in attendance, kicked off McQueen’s post-humous exhibition entitled Savage Beauty.
The exhibition’s title is an apt reference to McQueen’s design aesthetic—brash, dramatic, and imbued with humanity and vibrance. The MET will be featuring his best work, dating from 1992 until his final runway show just after his death in February 2010. His inspirations and various works have been compiled by curator Andrew Bolton, and arranged in multiple galleries according to McQueen’s various interpretations of romance—primitivism, naturalism, and exoticism, among others.
The show runs from May 4th to July 31st. All featured images courtesy of the MET.
