Never one to do things by halves (see: their first runway show opening with a model ascending from the ceiling on a harness, Spiderman), Band of Outsiders pulled inspiration from The Jets and The Sharks in their recent extravaganza celebrating not only fashion, but American film and music as the guest designer at Pitti Immagine Uomo in Florence.

Designer Scott Sternberg—who travels to Italy often to oversee the production of his lines outside of Venice—told Nowness “I wanted to play with this idea of fashion and theater or cinema…Things that I might have found hokey and corny I really responded to.” While it had its roots in schmaltz and its tongue in its cheek, the show was an impressive demonstration of both its Italian dancers’ skills (not to mention the models’ ability to not falter with men fawning at their feet to the strains of Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story Score) and those of Sternberg, whose crisp, tailored suits, lace-up stiletto boots and brilliant use of color in the Boy and Girl lines paired perfectly with new men’s pieces we can look forward to seeing more of in the spring shows.

Blogger Susie Bubble was there at Florence’s Manifattura Tabacchi filming the action for her own short clip alongside the director of this video, who Susie lists only as “N. Florelli”.
