Bonjour, Jacquemus!

Hailing from the south of France, designer Simon Porte Jacquemus has channelled French chic with a modern, carefree attitude for his  F/W’12 collection, L’Usine from his label Jacquemus.  Consisting of ‘Le Pull’s’ (sweaters) and ‘La Jupe’s’ (skirts), Jacquemus’ line is all about practicality at the office that can transform to fit your after five persona which for the Jacquemus girl is a Serge Gainsbourg-listening, cookbook-reading, pastis-drinking sweetheart who still likes to spend time with her family and have a boogie.

The 21-year-old prodigy—who has only been designing for just over a year—presented his fourth collection during fashion week and has already caught the attention of cult label Opening Ceremony, who have come on board as a stockist, branching out his inspired designs to the American market.  The line, which is heavy is woolen suiting with a colour palette of pink, green and red, is a reference to traditional French factory uniforms, Jacquemus told Opening Ceremony:

“The idea of doing a collection with one look, with a repetition: pullover, skirt, pullover, skirt. I like to develop one look in one collection. When a collection is the same from A to Z, it’s for a woman who’s a bit crazy, wearing the same uniform every day.”

The short film directed by Bertrand Le Pluard follows the bevy of French beauties in their boxy colour blocked suits—teamed with Dr. Martens—as they spend their day in their monotonous jobs smoking and drinking Coca-Cola, all whilst looking effortlessly fabulous at the same time. Tres bien!
