Chanel’s New Friend Boy

Known for elegance, class and French chic nuances since its inception over 100 years ago, Parisian fashion house Chanel has been at the forefront of feminine dressing, and under Karl Lagerfeld‘s gloved hands and watchful, shaded eyes this tradition has flourished. However as we move into 2012, a new type of Chanel girl has arrived: the edgy, punk inspired Brit model Alice Dellal.

While she may be known for being a member of all-girl BFF band Thrush Metal, whose self-funded label is called Sweet Dick Music, Dellal turns it on for the 20s-inspired silent film to accompany the release of the newest member to the Chanel family, the ‘boy bag’. Inspired by a cartridge bag that was originally made for hunters and was carried by Coco Chanel herself, Lagerfeld explained:

Chanel used men’s underwear to make dresses; she had this boyish attitude, in fact, it is the very spirit of Chanel. She got it from Boy Capel, the great love of her life, which, incidentally, explains why the new bag is called the Boy Chanel.

Dressed in classic Chanel wear (think boucle suiting, bows and ruffles) fused with her signature barely-there leather shorts and ripped stockings, the beauty with a half shaved head adds a unique and refreshing touch to a label we all thought would never whole heartedly bound into the realms of modernity.
