So just how well can a substitute teacher turn out a classroom while the real teacher is away? Dean and Dan Caten, the biologically blessed design duo that is DSquared2, enter a lifeless classroom of model students with Wes Anderson-worthy delivery to Shirley Ellis’ tune “The Clapping Song”. Titled, The Substitutes, the brothers Caten handpicked fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott to neatly package the illustrious shenanigans into a minute and thirty seconds in anticipation of their Autumn/Winter 2012 collection.
The Substitutes delivers on its promises of fashion ferocity, with Dean and Dan each opening a suitcase of the label’s finest treasures for fall, and soon thereafter catwalk 101 ensues, the female students get slap-happy, the male students lose their shirts, and at its climax, the kids are cutting the rug to pieces. The film is deliciously unapologetic in its objectification of pupils and products, so don’t look for anything beyond than the lavish and lively in this campaign video. Yet for what it’s worth, Dean and Dan certainly hope that you at least learned something while class was in session.
