German born fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld recently unveiled his affordable, new collection aptly named Karl. The line, heavy in leathers, suiting and masculine cuts is a throwback to Lagerfeld’s classic personal style. Starring blonde bombshell Anja Rubik and oriental goddess Sui He, the collection’s promotional video is a homage to the designer himself with the leading ladies giving their take on the style, sophistication and swagger of the man of the hour.
Available exclusively online at Net-A-Porter on January 25th, 2012, the covetable collection of 100 pieces fuses garments distinctive of the designer who has brought fashion houses such as Balmain, Fendi and most notably Chanel into the modern era, in particular high-neck detachable collars, tuxedo jackets and his signature accessory, fingerless gloves.
Lagerfeld explained the inspiration of the diffusion line to fashion bible, Womens Wear Daily:
“It’s my today’s taste and style and a reflection of how I think a great number of people would like to be dressed now. I just want not too expensive clothes that people may like and perhaps want to wear. That was my concept for a long time, but my business partners in the past wanted to be like Chanel or Fendi without putting behind what is needed to be like that.”
