Eterno Retorno Brings Back The 90s

Eterno Retorno is a fashion film collaboration between creative director Jaime Rubiano and filmmaker Jason Last. Shot in Paris for Vogue Latin America with the help of photographer Fabien Montique, the film features Polish beauty Daga Ziober.

Taking a post modern view on the 90s era in fashion, Rubiano told Portable;

The nineties and grunge seemed more in line with the grim mood of a dormant revolution. It all reflected the cultural mood of anarchy at the centre of much of what was new in the art world. It was a decade of extreme minimalism and bold maximalism and a plethora of sartorial characters.

Graphic landscapes by Daniel Adric that frame and build tension between the subject and the space were crucial to the film, as was Ziober’s performance as a “vessel that would exude a sense of anarchy through her expressions and gestures; through the styling and proportions. It was all meant to convey a sense of disorder in opposition to the minimal surroundings,” explained Rubiano.

The era also influenced filmmaker Jason Last’s techniques, oh which he enlightened Portable;

In terms of visual effects and aesthetics, it was about creating a balance of imagery that felt of the moment and inline with the collections, referentially to the 1990s; but also deconstructing the video footage by breaking it down to it’s rawer form…connecting it to a time of renegade, or less accessible video making.

Styled by Anna Schiffel, Ziober is doused in an enviable collection of designers at the top of their game in the 90s, such as Jean Paul Gaultier, Yves Saint-Laurent and Chanel, as well as new kids on the block Haider Ackermann and Simone Rocha. With statement jewellery from Cartier and Bvlgari, Eterno Retorno is the best parts of 90s fashion propelled into modernity.
