Proudrace: Fashion From The Philippines

For an unassuming T-shirt brand, these guys sure know how to dress. On first look, this one-minute black and white piece created by Proudrace may seem like a bit of experimental film, but the tight shots and tensions of the individuals are a reflection of  the clothes by the fashion label out of Manila.

Since its beginning in 2009, the independent label has extended their handmade, androgynous designs to all facets of fashion.  The new Spring/Summer collection—their fifth so far—titled ‘Gang Of’ features long draping dresses and monochrome shirts matched with structured schoolboy shorts and pants.  The hooded shirts and fedoras add a hint of an exotic mystical traveller.

The short fashion film was shot by director Judd Figuerres, a graduating student of the Philippines Film Institute—in fact, he produced the video while editing his student thesis.  Working with the independent owners of Proudrace, Rik Rasos and industrial designer Pat Bondoc, the film captivates the audience through tight, engaging headshots and showcases the label’s 90s-inspired fashion nostalgia through a creativity rare to fashion film.
