Going Nowhere With MARIOS

Pietro Cocco‘s collaborative fashion short film with Frida Affer describes five separate lives going absolutely nowhere. Whether it be flicking through the pages of an empty magazine, repeatedly stripping coloured sheets off a bed or pouring a glass of water until it overflows; the film beautifully explores and satirises life’s banalities through surrealism.

The dramatic music juxtaposes the actions and the people themselves, adding excitement to the mundane. The pair have been working together for two years now since their first creation of the series Making a Sandwich. Both works explore everyday ideas with a strong surrealistic approach, as both artists have a flair for the unconventional.

The fashion film highlights MARIOS‘ clothing collection Nowhere through utter surrealism, using non-narrative story and symbology “to evocate a mental journey created by wearing landscapes as clothes.”  That landscape is communicated through photo-imaged pleated skirts, shirts and oversized kaftan dresses bearing images of icy beaches and mountain landscapes. The result is absurd, hilarious, utterly bizarre and brilliant.
