Before Gaga was bringing the ruckus, Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam or M.I.A. was bringin’ it, both on the music and fashion scenes. Three albums later and a baby on the side, M.I.A. is proving she can still push those style boundaries with her latest music video, XXXO off her 2010 album MAYA. A techno love fest in which she has enlisted the help of up-and-coming Melbourne designer Nadia Napreychikov for some killer threads.
Only last year, Nadia’s pieces were showcased as apart of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week’s RMIT (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) show. A showcase of fourth year/graduate creations aimed at promoting awareness of emerging fashion designers within the school.
Less then a year later, one of Nadia’s graduate pieces, a leather buckle dress, has been blinged out and worn by M.I.A. in her new video clip, which is also directed by the rapping fashionista. Who was also sweet enough to send a thank-you note
to Nadia.
