London-based designer Manuela Dack enlisted the help of director Max Langlands for her spring/summer 2012 campaign video, and the result of the collaboration is a fashion film that manages to be both slow and jolting all at once.
Scored by The Horse’s Mouth, the video uses harsh angled shots to compliment the delicate and edgy silhouettes in the apparel. Dack has chosen to highlight light and sheer fabrics with minimalist designs to remind us of the simple wonders in summer and spring fashion. The music provides the video with a resonating, grating, scraping sound, paralleling the video’s slow pace, which adds a certain elegance to model Shenuye’s movements.
At the end of what feels like a subversive attack on the eyes and ears, we are left with a lingering moodiness that attracts us to Manuela Dack’s contemporary approach to classic looks, inspired by her childhood growing up on Grand Cayman Island.
