Rise With Suzanne Rae

Directed by Alexandra Roxo, Rise is the new film look book for Suzanne Rae’s 2012 Spring/Summer Collection. For Roxo, Rise encapsulates the beauty behind losing one’s inhibitions; embracing freedom and revisiting magical childlike places where one can run around and play in the dirt.

The film has three distinctive moments punctuated by three separate soundtracks. Beginning with a relaxed afternoon by the lake, the film then breaks into two friends becoming wild animal-like creatures—running through the woods and rolling in the mud. The film then ends with a clear break back into reality as the girls dive into a pool while the audience is left wondering if the previous happenings were in fact, merely a dream.

When asked about the inspiration behind the film, Roxo states that, “the collection itself was inspired by Japanese turn of the century culture. Suzanne and I looked at a lot of Kurosawa films that felt magical, but also had a simplicity to them. The girls start in a very normal world: fishing and just relaxing. But once they take their boat into the mist things start to shift.”

From this inspiration comes a film for a Spring/Summer Collection like no other. Instead of the standard babes on a beach, we see a darker and moodier Spring/Summer that leaves you desperately craving a play date in the woods.
