Like a lucid dream, Ragnar Agnarsson’s fashion film SHAKE draws you in, holds you in its palm and makes you sweat. When it’s all over you’re disorientated—you feel as though it never really happened, yet you feel changed and like you want to go right back to the start and do it all over again. Showcasing some of Iceland’s most promising sartorial talent, the film is clear and crisp with a subtle absurdity that creates a hypnotic surrealist vision.
Premiering at the opening ceremony for Design March at the Reykjavík Art Museum, SHAKE is intended to promote Icelandic fashion and designers on a global level. Showcasing an impressive repertoire of directional styles, it’s an eyeopening glimpse at the formidable fashion wheels that have been turning in Iceland. As models bend and snap, the film focuses on movement, with garments cascading like waterfalls and seeming to fragment as the action lapses into half-time.
