Orla Kiely

Background: An Irish native working out of London, Kiely has been in the industry for a good while; almost 20 years. However, she’s only a newcomer to NYFW, showing for the first time in the Spring 2012 line-up. Her work has also seen her collaborate on diffusion lines with budget brands like Uniqlo and Target.

Standouts in SS13 Collection:Mad Men Chic’ would indeed be the usual description of Kiely’s output however the latest S/S collection saw her taking a step into sun drenched California. Captured in a fashion film starring the quintessential California gurl Hannah Holman, the best of this collection were the candy pinks, pop cultural prints and strong mod-stylings that spirited the ‘retro’ style right back to today.

Next in Line to: Karen Walker. We’ve made no secret of the fact we adore Walker’s boundless color palette and breezy prints, but she has some stiff competition; Kiely managed to best most of her color choices this season by opting for brights over pastels, and even topped Walker’s take on the sheer printed top, her version a more ladylike alternative to the dated shift stylings Walker provided.
