With a name like Vena Cava — one of the veins that pump blood to the heart — it’s no surprise that the designers behind the brand have a bit of a dark side. Inspired by 1970s neo noir films this season, Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock decided to join forces with Red Bucket Films to create their own stylish version of a horror movie, complete with sleek, sinister looks from the duo’s newest fall collection and a group of creepy-yet-gorgeous girlfriends acting as members of a cult. Are you getting goosebumps yet?
The flick’s recently released trailer for Heartland features gal pals like Eléonore Hendricks and Langley Hemingway joining in a chilling car ride singalong rendition of Bone Thugs N Harmony’s “Tha Crossroads” while their cult leader rants about killing to survive. Meanwhile, the ethereal indie music goddess St. Vincent performs at a bash at the Chateau Marmont, while Buhai and Mayock soon find themselves the victims of a violent kidnapping.
Far from a simple “fashion-film,” the teaser shows a darker side of Los Angeles, with scenes evoking eerie 70′s cult hysteria. In keeping with the label’s name, we’re thinking this story will have a suitably gory ending.
