Tyra Strikes A Pose

Tyra Banks steps back in front of the lens for this motion editorial by photographer Marcus Gaab, taking on multiple personalities, including her signature cray-cray characters.  The former supermodel—who is now one of the sassiest business women to grace our television screens with, not only 17 cycles of America’s Next Top Model, but also her self-titled talk show—is coming off the back of releasing her very first book, Modelland.

The video accompanies the spread shot by Gaab for the latest issue of I Love You Magazine, and features the vivacious icon of fashion with cats-eye liner, lacquered with mustard yellow shadow and sky-high quiff in masculine, 80s-inspired pieces such as a classic blouse, pants and necklace by Yves Saint Laurent, a fluffy lurex Marc Jacobs cardigan, necklace by Patricia von Musulin, crisp Paul Smith shirt, grey Emporio Armani jacket and heels from Pierre Hardy.

Gaab explained the enigma that is Banks on set to Nowness:

“I just told her to perform, do her thing and to stop when she felt like…but she didn’t stop, she kept on voguing. There was no rehearsal; she invented the whole thing while we were there.”

The queen of ‘smizing’ (that’s her trademarked portmanteau that means “smiling with your eyes”) and ‘making ugly pretty’ takes on a wide range of not only facial expressions and emotions of love and hate during the editorial, but also creates intricate lines and surprising moments, giving some of her ANTM proteges a run for their money.
