We’ve always been incredibly fascinated by stop motion claymation. Ever since we saw ‘The Trapdoor‘ We were hooked. Our admiration probably came more from the fact that our rather naiive six year old selves lacked the skill of sculpture, much to our disappointment. All those hours of molding misshapen lions and houses led us to accept defeat and pick up a pencil, with much better results.

Obviously Andy Kennedy either had miles more talent or persistence, or both because this little short animation is gold. Monochromatic and all contained within a circle, ‘Accumulonimbus’ is playful and just generally pretty damn cool. With these man made objects disintegrating, multiplying, spinning around the screen you can’t help but be mesmerised. Andy Kennedy not only did all the animation but he also wrote the music. We can only imagine all the hours and work that would go into creating something like this so luckily for us Andy documented pretty much the whole process. You can check out the raw footage and photos here.
