Film and photography are close relatives. They both capture the world as they see it, stitching together stories in their different ways. And while fiction films in which photographers take centre stage aren’t all that rife, happy (or not so happy) snappers have featured in thrillers, comedies and even musicals. The whir of the auto-advance and the shatter of the shutter play a crucial part in many an award-winning film, and a couple that are a little more undemanding, but nonetheless just a bit of fun.
Whether they’re psychopathic, falling for the muse, photographing the unbelievable and the obscene, or becoming obsessed with their subjects, these cinematic shutterbugs have all given us a natty glimpse into the life of the character that lurks behind the lens.
