Disposable Film Festival 2010

Our pals the Disposable Film Festival started way back when in 2007 to wholeheartedly embrace the potential of video of the disposable nature. By that I mean non-professional devices like one time use video cameras, mobile devices, webcams, and other readily available video capturing devices.

Nowadays, you’d be rather hard-pressed to make a friend that doesn’t have at least one of these cameras/webcams/mobiles. In fact, I’d venture to say that most people have made (at one point or another) a short video. Whether it be something with a narrative, or just you and your mates drawing something rude on a sleeping/passed out friend, it’s a video. Youtube’s full of it. Facebook is too. It’s just amazingly easy to shoot video, and distribute it.

So, can we embrace the disposable film as a genre unto itself? Surely, there’s potential for greatness (away from the “cats doing funny things” videos on the ‘Tube). “Yes!” is what DFF reckons. The third annual Disposable Film Festival is being held in San Francisco from the 4th till the 7th of March. It’s not only consisting of a screening for the competitive shorts, but there’s artist spotlights with talks given by directors and companies….as well as the partying that’s to be expected from a film festival.
