First Class Citizens

From Prop 8 and Don’t Ask Don’t Tell through to the beliefs of the current crop of Republican candidates vying for the US Presidency, recent history has had its fair share of discriminatory moments that could have any young gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender person feeling a little hesitant about their place in the world.

Combining archival footage warning children against the “dangers” of homosexuals with recent news reports of gay teenagers who have fallen prey to bullying and taken their own lives, the trailer for Ryan James Yezak‘s upcoming documentary Second Class Citizens is an all-encompassing look at the laws in the United States that discriminate against GLBT people.

Traversing the topic from blood donation by homosexuals to the frequently contested equal marriage acts circulating in the country, his documentary is set to be an equally infuriating and inspiring feature on what the country’s perspectives on homosexuality and the laws pertaining to them mean for us. Compiling YouTube footage from the likes of Zach Wahls with interviews by Sarah Silverman, speeches by Dustin Lance Black and clips from The Ellen Show, Yezak’s film is a necessary, contemporary documentary that will only be completed if he raises the final $20,000 of his $50,000 goal on Kickstarter.
