Let’s get one thing clear right away: Lena Dunham‘s HBO series Girls stars four friends who live, work and have awful sex in New York, but that’s where the comparisons to Sex and the City begin and end. The first two episodes, which premiere today at SXSW, introduce us to Hannah (Dunham), her roommate Marnie (Allison Williams), their friend Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) and her cousin Jessa (Jemima Kirke), who struggle with money, men, communicating in the age of Facebook, drugs and every terrible thing sex can bring. This pitch-perfect portrayal of 20-somethings is cringe-worthy in its humiliating reality.
