Leos Carax’s fiendishly entertaining Holy Motors, his first feature in 13 years, drops into New York theaters this Friday. The film follows a professional master of disguise (Denis Lavant) across eight identities — and even more arrondissements — as he traverses Paris from dawn till dusk. In honor of the release, we’ve decided to round-up ten titillating films that transpire over a 24-hour period. Such timely and often cramped confines — Lavant’s Monsieur Oscar operates out of a limo-cum- changing room — tend to make for excellent character studies and assuredly urgent filmmaking.
