Not quite One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, not quite the-first-few-minutes-of-Little Miss Sunshine, the new film from writer/directors of Half Nelson Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck tackles teenage depression with a few LOLs.
Based on the novel by Ned Vizzini, It’s Kind of a Funny Story stars Keir Gilchrist (from United States of Tara) as a new patient in a mental health clinic. Funnyman and beard-owner Zach Galifianakis takes the kid under his wing in what we hope is a performance reminiscent of Steve Carell’s in Little Miss Sunshine. There’s little we like more than an outrageous comedian making a successful switch in a brilliant dramatic film. Come oooonnnnnn, Galifianakis!

It’s Kind of a Funny Story is slated for release in September.
