When Herzog Rescued Phoenix from sciezata77 on YouTube
The name on everyone’s lips lately has been “Joaquin Phoenix”. With I’m Still Here receiving mixed reviews, Casey Affleck fronting up to its fakery and the news that Letterman was in on it, we’re glad to have some lighter Phoenix-related fare that doesn’t require all that much effort and skepticism.
We weren’t the only ones who enjoyed watching Werner Herzog’s Twitter/YouTube Q & A session; animator Sacha Ciezata enjoyed the director’s response to David Lynch’s query about saving someone’s life (an obvious prompt to tell the “I saved Joaquin! story) so much, he recreated the anecdote in a charming stop-motion animation.
Werner Herzog: humble hero.
Joaquin Phoenix: disgruntled and self-destructive since 2006.

PS- Joaquin returned to Letterman earlier this week and was back to his clean-shaven, charming, non-loony self. Phew.
