Life In A Day

Last July, we brought you a video of Kevin MacDonald requesting submissions to his user-generated documentary project Life In A Day. The Last King of Scotland director and his partner, producer Ridley Scott, wanted to see what your life looked like on July 24, 2010, as well as confessions of your greatest fear, the thing that makes you laugh, what you love most and the contents of your pocket. Sixteen months later, 4,500 hours of footage has been culled down to the 90-minute film that has just made its web debut on YouTube.

Eighty thousand clips were submitted from 192 countries around the world, and the completed work—which credits six directors and has been playing at select festivals since it premiered at Sundance in January—is a stunning and life-affirming portrait of what it meant to be alive on that specific day.

From the opening shot of a mother gazing adoringly at her newborn baby to footage of the way that seemingly insignificant Saturday was spent in every corner of the globe, Life In A Day allows us to spend time with people who are just like us, but lead entirely different lives.
