Who: Shaun Tan
What: The Lost Thing
Why: Shaun Tan is Melbourne’s newest golden child following his win at the 2011 Oscars for animated short The Lost Thing (co-directed by Andrew Ruhemann). Tan moved from Perth in 2007 to work on the 15-minute, CGI film with a small team of animators. Based on Tan’s own picture book, the film is about a boy who finds, acknowledges and befriends a lumbering, metal thing and has also been adapted into a stage play.
