Some Guy Named Mike From Milwaukee
Some guy named Mike from Milwaukee (known as RedLetterMedia on YouTube) has put together the most extensive review of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace that I’ve ever seen. It is a 70 minute long documentary critique, analysing the illogic and all around bad filmmaking that is The Phantom Menace. His final character analysis of George Lucas is my favourite part, together with all the psychopath jokes. There is not much more to say except MAKE SURE YOU WATCH THIS THING. This is fan culture working at its best. Henry Jenkins would be proud.

His use of behind the scenes footage is far more interesting and revealing than any special features I’ve come across in the recent Star Wars Saga DVD’s and just goes to show what happens when filmmaking turns to megalomania. Anyhow, I am officially now really curious to see how Star Wars Episode 4 and the original movies would have turned out had Lucas been able to use such advanced special effects.
“Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering…That doesn’t make a lick of sense. You see when you have three interchangable emotional states they can’t really be arranged into a certain pattern of logic. Let me share some real wisdom with you. Chicken leads to egg, egg leads to omlette, omlette leads to fecal urgency.”
And I agree. Qui-Gon Jinn probably was drinking gin. Qui-Gon Booze!
It is really worth looking at all his reviews including what I believe to be a very perceptive and right on review of Avatar.
