Never Let Me Go from stepliana on YouTube
Having just hit the festival circuits in Europe and the US, Never Let Me Go is slowly garnering attention as one of the big hitters for next year’s Academy Awards. Based on Kazuo Ishiguro’s beautiful 2005 novel about the lives of three young things leaving their sheltered life at the Hailsham school and moving into the big wide world that they know nothing about. Shrouded in mystery, all we know is that they are prepared for their ‘donations’ to begin and life after that seems unnecessary.
The film stars Carey Mulligan, Kiera Knightley and Andrew Garfield (as Kathy, Ruth and Tommy respectively) and what we have here is a clip that has just been released from the film before its release in late 2010/early 2011. Another snippet from the film has also been released as well as the trailer, if you’re that way inclined.
Directed by Mark Romanek (One Hour Photo) and adapted for the screen by Alex Garland (The Beach, 28 Days Later, Sunshine), it seems that audiences will be in for quite the treat when this baby drops. We’ll just have to wait a few more months. Or, alternately, read the magnificent book in the meantime!
