Theme parties. Two words that whip anyone with a pulse into a frenzy of excitement, panic and manic million-miles-an-hour brainstorming. Everyone loves theme parties because it’s an excuse to abandon all fashion pretension and delve back into the childhood fun of the dress-up box. The only thing more enticing than a theme party is a secret party, and if that particular secret theme party also has a secret theme party movie screening you’ve pretty much got yourself the best night of your life!

These are the thrills that our awesome friends at the Underground Cinema have been plotting away at. ‘The Room’ is one thing, but this cinematic experience is really something else. In the past the Underground Cinema has treated us to a 80s prom-themed screening in a high-school gym and a Halloween edition of Sleepy Hollow framed by the gothic glory of St Mark’s church in Fitzroy complete with makeshift graveyard. This time around, the theme is NYC Summer of ’94. 10 points to the person who guesses what film will screen!
Tamasein Holyman, UGC producer explains: “We're not about your average multiplex experience... arriving at our locations is like walking onto a film set, with live performances recreating elements of the movie you're about to see.”
The NYC Summer of ’94 Underground Cinema will happen on Saturday 20th of March from 8:15pm. Tickets are $30 + bf and can be purchased at www.undergroundcinema.com.au. Now go, raid those op-shops!
