Trash Humpers. A new film from Harmony Korine.

By Alexander Ford / May 5th, 2010 in Film / 131 views

It’s officially blockbuster season in the U.S. and one film that seems to stand out amongst the usual lineup of 3D comic book threequels is Harmony Korine’s latest offering, Trash Humpers.

If you’re familiar with Korine’s work, you’ll know that his style of filmmaking is definitely an acquired taste. Having previously been responsible for films like Gummo (1997) and Mister Lonely (2007), Korine is the master of polarizing audiences.

So why do you care, huh? Well, interestingly, since premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, Trash Humpers has garnered generally positive reviews across the board— some of which you might even call glowing. Not bad for a feature that Korine himself refuses to refer to as a “film” (He prefers “artifact”).

Trash Humpers begins a limited theatrical release in the U.S. from this Friday, May 7. No word yet on whether it’ll ever make it onto overseas screens, but you can’t help but think it’ll inevitably get released on VHS sometime soon.

…And for those who want to get to know Korine a little better, here’s a clip from a documentary called Beautiful Losers. If you skip about 8 minutes into the video, you get to hear Korine describe how a his friend Samuel’s head was decapitated at a childrens playground in Nashville.
