Douglas Lyle Thompson is a purveyor of dream landscapes; white sands, azure blue waters and the perfectly shaped palm tree. It should come as no surprise then, that Thompson began in lifestyle and hotel photography, responsible for crafting those alluring images we romanticize whilst flicking through a travel magazine or browsing the Internet for voyeuristic distractions.

Somewhere alongside documenting these covetable places and people, Thompson began photographing the landscapes around him, and since then he hasn’t looked back. While his portfolio extends across a number of photography styles, it’s his depiction of natural landscapes that we get the strongest sense of his personal aesthetic. Simple compositions, wide open spaces and a sense of silent reflection spill out from Thompson’s camera, creating the distinct sense of voyeurism that whisks you seamlessly away to a remote desert or far-off city Thompson is showing you. It’s almost as good as being there yourself.

Take a moment with us to get lost in the beautiful emptiness in Thompson’s landscapes and the travel stories that inspired them…
