Phillip Van has long been in my purview as one of the most underrated directors working today. He’s been featured in Filmmaker Magazine’s “25 New Faces of Independent Film” and among SHOOT Magazine’s “Up & Coming Directors,” and his work for Little Minx/Black Dog/RSA is all exemplary and worth noting.

Yet it was his most recent foray into photography that immediately grabbed my attention. No stranger to capturing amazing photographs, Phillip stepped out in New York City in the quiet after Hurricane Sandy to capture the city in all of its stillness, using only natural light. I cannot possibly come up with words to describe the impact of these photos; they quite obviously speak for themselves.
