Maxence Cyrin - Where Is My Mind?

by Alexander Ford on 01/09/2010 in Music - 0 comments

This probably strays from the Portable content you’ve come used to, but hey, maybe it’s time to embrace something a little different. EAT PRAY BRO, Y'ALL.

The above work is the creation of French pianist, Maxence Cyrin. Although being classically trained, Cyrin has made a name for himself in recent times for covering contemporary pop songs, and coupling them with re-edited scenes from classic films. Visuals have been taken from the 1928 Greta Garbo film, The Mysterious Lady.

If you weren’t living beneath a rock during the last few months of 2009 you would have had the pleasure of discovering Dead Man’s Bones, a musical duo made up of ‘Half Nelson’ actor Ryan Gosling and his friend Zach Shields. They have just released a new music video, for their song ‘Pa-Pa Power’ that appears to be more of a documentary set to music. Ted Leo and the Pharmacists recently collaborated with legendary theatre director Reginald VanVoorst to bring us this full-scale stage masterpiece, in which Ted – punk god that he is – sells his soul and credibility for fame. In the end, he dies. There’s a lesson in there, kids.

Not really, though.

by Alexander Ford on 25/08/2010 in Music - 0 comments

I’m not sure if this is some kind of metaphor, or if (god damn!) this is real. MGMT have released a video for the title track of their latest album, Congratulations. The clip features bandmates, Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden, along with what could possibly be the result of E.T. having sex with a marionette puppet.
