A Killer Moon And Youth Lagoon

Forget all your prejudices against young men and their wild, carefree ways. Youth Lagoon—AKA Trevor Powers—is here to prove you wrong. This 22 year-old Boise, Idaho native, with the gentle voice and muted tunes worked his socks off for the 2011 release ‘The Year Of Hibernation’.

July is the latest release from YL’s debut, and it is set to pluck your taut heartstrings like a Celtic harp. Directed by Tyler T Williams, the grainy muted images in the video match perfectly with the haunting music. The clip starts off somewhat like Happy Days; clean cut boy on a bicycle rides through suburbia, while a dashing young man in a leather jacket picks up a preppy blonde in his Volvo. Things go downhill fast for the gang, who should have probably stayed at Arnold’s.

Without spoiling it too much, it is just worth making a note of why not to mess with the moon’s axis. It is sci fi which is still firmly grounded in the realms of possibility.

You can read an interview with the director Williams here; he also collaborated with Youth Lagoon for the clip Montana and has worked with a slew of other indie bands as well. Youth Lagoon is touring his butt off until April, including two shows in Australia, seven in Europe and a month long tour across America. Check out the dates here.
