A Scandinavian Crush on Craft Spells

From an unlikely combination of synth-happy pop and erotic 80s romance flicks comes the new video from Seattle four-piece Craft Spells. Their debut album ‘Idle Labor’—which was released earlier this year—is brimming with tracks of longing and heartache—most notably Scandinavian Crush.

The second track on the album tells a story of one heart’s crush on another, which make the scenes from 9 1/2 Weeks a surprising visual match; the video was created by Jer Robert Paulin using scenes from Adrian Lyne’s 1986 film.

Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke are the lust-driven pair, around whose tryst the film is set, and the sounds of Craft Spells are the perfect synth-filled anthem for this duo. Even the tales are eerily similar: one person teetering on the edge of lust and love, hoping for one thing but anticipating the other. If only these two weren’t a quarter century apart.
