Animal Collective’s Sibling Love

It seems fitting that, while Animal Collective member Avey Tare (born Dave Portner) has ventured off to work on a solo album, his first single still has ties back to the animal kingdom.

The video for his new single Lucky 1 features an alligator’s head and kaleidoscopic shapes, all of which were meticulously hand-drawn by his sister, Abby Portner. She clearly knows her bro well; his solo artist bio says, “His favorite animals are the otter and crocodile. The lat[t]er has played a big role in his newest record.”

This is now our second-favourite animated music video a sister’s made for her brother (a very specific category, we’ll admit), the first being this one, by Melbourne artist Wil Wagner’s little sister Lizzie.

Avey Tare’s solo album ‘Down There’ is out on Paw Tracks on October 26.
