Director Allen Cordell provides Beach House’s audience with a time traveling adventure to the 80’s with his video game inspired graphics, colorful clouds of smoke and bright neon accents. “Lazuli” the newest hit off of Beach House’s Bloom introduces us to three gloomy characters that are placed in an ordinary world. Like a Rubik’s cube, when the camera pans away the viewers are taken to a new side where colors emerge and introduce us to a Brave New World.
Eggs pop out of their cartons and candles light themselves in this alternative universe — setting this video aside from Cordell’s previous work with the band. We love the nostalgic childhood memories that we get when watching it.

Generally, as a costume designer, on set, my day begins with final adjustments of any new costumes that are being established on camera and checking that they ‘work’, as required, for the actors. On days that there are crowd shots, we do a lineup of all the extras fully costumed. I will weed out anything that looks odd or wrong in colour, as background is a very important base layer to compliment rather than overpower the principal cast.
