Deerhunter Helicopter

After a temporary hiatus Deerhunter are back. ‘Helicopter’ is the second single released from their forthcoming album ‘Halcyon Digest‘ which is set to hit stores on September 28. The album was self produced by the band with the help of Ben Allen who also produced Animal Collective’s ‘Merriweather Post Pavillion’.

The clip has a degenerated, low quality look and is entirely in black and white. We know cross fades are generally avoided due to their tacky, ‘un-cinematic’ look but in this case, we are fans. They work well for ‘Helicopter’ and help in keeping with the video’s experimental style. It reminds us of those old, bad, psychedelic horror scenes (is there such a thing?) where the editing is slightly off and doesn’t seem to have enough coverage, so they insert some stock footage of random images. Except this is actually pretty good and the song seems to fit rather nicely against the overlay of images.

Deerhunter continue to make blissful, ambient music that makes you want to lie outside in the sun whilst eating a frosty fruit. Mmm frosty fruit….
