Down By The Water from TheDrumsForever on YouTube
Brooklynites The Drums burst onto the scene after the release of their debut album The Drums at the beginning of 2010. They’ve been on the road for a big chunk of this year, pausing only, it seems, to make this little video for their track Down By The Water. They had this to say about their intentions for the video:
We wanted the “Down by the Water” video to directly reflect the song itself, and be as simple as possible. Both the video and song are a tribute to the girl groups of the 50’s and 60’s, a great inspiration to the band and one of the reasons we started it.
Directed by Surround’s Brian and Brad Palmer, the minimalism of the vocals on the track is nicely mirrored in the visual style. Undoubtedly the most blissed out and stripped back track on the album, the boys have made a good move in the transition to the screen. The Drums are currently on tour with Surfer Blood throughout the US, with dates available via Stereogum.
