Harper Simon’s Berkeley Girl

Harper Simon – Berkeley Girl (feat Jena Malone) from piasrecordings on YouTube

This dreamy, romantic little video stars actress Jena Malone (Saved!, Donnie Darko) – who’s also a musician in Jena Malone and Her Bloodstones – and Henry Wolfe, a musician who is often compared to Paul Simon.

Someone who’s compared to Paul Simon even more, though, is Harper Simon: Paul’s son and the guy who’s singing this song. If you heard this on the radio you’d be forgiven for thinking you were listening to Simon and Garfunkel or overhearing your neighbours watching The Graduate, and the gloriously sun-drenched video, directed by Benjamin Kutsko and shot on 8mm in Echo Park, is the perfect fit to such a nostalgic tune.

Speaking of nostalgia, let’s collectively remember a time (1976) when no-one thought twice about guys with bad combovers singing about stuff being against the law on Sesame Street.

Berkeley Girl is available on iTunes. You can buy a copy of his self-titled album here.
